View the Stars With Montauk Observatory Astronomers
The Montauk Observatory has organized a night of stargazing for the whole family in Bridgehampton.
Astronomers will explain the night sky at the South Fork Natural History Museum on Friday from 9 to 11 p.m., setting up telescopes to "give guided tours of the heavens," the observatory said.
The first half-hour will consist of a brief lecture about stargazing, star-hopping, and general tips for observing, and then astronomers will lead participants out into the field for a look at the night sky.
Participants can bring binoculars or set up their own telescopes. Astrophotography will be welcomed, as well.
Viewing conditions on Friday can be checked on the Clear Sky Chart on the Montauk Observatory’s website. The event will be canceled if it is raining or cloudy.
The program is free, but donations to the Montauk Observatory will be accepted.
