LGBT Network Opens H.I.V. Testing Service in Sag Harbor

The LGBT Network has opened the first program on the East End specifically designed to combat the spread of H.I.V.

The service, operating out of the Old Whalers Church on Union Street in Sag Harbor, tests and screens people for H.I.V. and offers education, too, all free and confidential.

The professionally trained staff provides preventive treatment including the pre-exposure prophylaxis pill, commonly known as the PrEP pill, and arranges transportation for those who need further treatment. The LGBT Network also has plans to start an outreach program for Latino communities on the East End.

Those wishing to be screened, tested, or simply looking for more information can stop in at the Old Whalers Church on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. On other days, appointments must be made in advance by calling 631-899-4950.

And all of it will get a boost on Saturday, when the LGBT Network holds its Sunset on the Harbor fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Breakwater Yacht Club in Sag Harbor, with hors d'oeuvres and live music. Tickets start at $100, $50 for young professionals.
