Duryeas in ’38 Hurricane

Anne Costello McDowell, an author and storyteller, will present “Wind, War, and the Duryeas,” a talk about the courage and strength of the Duryea family of Montauk in the aftermath of the 1938 Hurricane, at the Montauk Library on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Ms. McDowell is the author of “The Man From Montauk,” a biography of New York State Assemblyman Perry B. Duryea, who died in 2004, and his father, State Senator Perry B. Duryea Sr., who died in 1968.

The talk is part of the library’s Stormy Weather series of exhibits and programs commemorating the Hurricane of 1938 and other major storms that have hit the hamlet.

The hurricane made landfall on the South Fork on Sept. 21.
