Orson and Ben Cummings were happy to announce this week that their documentary on Bridgehampton High School’s storied Killer Bees boys basketball team, which has nine state championships to its credit, is to premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival in October.

Under the watchful eyes of trainers and fussed over by anxious parents before they entered the resplendent Grand Prix ring, some 200 young local riders ranging in age from 2 to 7 years old and dressed to the nines inaugurated the weeklong Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton Sunday morning under sunny skies.

The Hamptons Lifeguard Association did itself proud in the United States national lifesaving championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., this past week, finishing fifth among almost three dozen teams from around the country, including the perennial winner, Los Angeles County, which was bumped to second this time by Monmouth County, N.J.

A 22-year-old squash and tennis player when he was at Dartmouth, Malachi Price, who can run pretty well, won Sunday’s Strides for Life 3-mile race in Southampton. Tara Farrell, 38, who won this race outright the better part of a decade ago, was the women’s winner — and third over all — in 18 minutes and 43 seconds.

Dr. Julie Ratner, who 22 years ago launched Ellen’s Run — and later the Ellen Hermanson Foundation — in memory of her younger sister, who died of breast cancer at the age of 42, said during a conversation at The Star the other day that she wanted everyone on the East End to know that no one is ever turned away at the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center...
