Two Charged With D.W.I.

A Sag Harbor man was said by East Hampton Town police to be driving drunk and going 80 miles per hour in Wainscott last Thursday evening. Fernando S. Gonzalez, 36, was driving a 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in a 30 m.p.h. zone on Daniel’s Hole Road, near Wainscott Northwest Road, at about 11:20 p.m. He also failed to dim his high-beam lights, police said. Once stopped, police said he seemed under the influence of alcohol and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. 

Mr. Gonzalez was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Justice Lisa R. Rana arraigned him on Friday and released him on his own recognizance. 

In Sag Harbor, while on a routine patrol on Saturday night, a village police officer saw a Mercedes Benz swerving over the double-yellow line on Hampton Street several times. The driver, Dwight M. Garcia, 46, of East Hampton was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and unsafe lane change and improper lane usage, violations.

When he was stopped on Hampton Street, just south of Lincoln Street at about 8:30 p.m., police said, he appeared intoxicated and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. 

Mr. Garcia was held overnight and released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
