‘We Smoked It All Earlier’
On patrol in Sag Harbor Saturday at about midnight, Officer Janelle Spero saw a 2002 Honda Civic make an improper U-turn on Main Street, and pulled the car over. Eric Gonzalez, 21, of Calverton was behind the wheel, and the officer reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.
She asked him if there was marijuana inside and he said, according to the arrest report, “No, we just smoked it all earlier, but there might be a little weed wax left over. You can check.”
The officer found wax inside a small rubber cap. The wax, which was brown and had an odor of marijuana, later tested positive. The officer also found a small clear glass bong in the rear of the car.
A check with the Department of Motor Vehicles revealed that Mr. Gonzalez’s driving privileges had been suspended for failure to answer a 2017 summons, police said. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. Police released him on $100 bail and instructions to appear in Sag Harbor Justice Court on Oct. 5.
In Amagansett early on Saturday, police pulled a car over in the parking lot of the East Hampton Golf Club on Abraham’s Path. Silas Pierre Liot, 24, the driver, and Tyler J. Barnish, 24, both of East Hampton, were charged with drug possession. Shortly after 2 a.m., East Hampton Town police said they found Mr. Liot had two round white pills that were later identified as lorazepam, and Mr. Barnish had an e-cigarette cartridge with a brown substance that later tested positive for marijuana.
Both were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. They were released with appearance tickets.
