Fire Training in Southampton to Cause Delays Monday

The Southampton Fire Department will conduct a large-scale training exercise on Main Street in the village on Monday between 6 and 9 p.m., partly as a response to the large fire on Sag Harbor’s Main Street in December. During the drill there will be road closures, and access to several parts of the business district will be closed off for emergency personnel to work. Traffic delays are possible. Main Street, West Main Street, and Nugent Street will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles.

Firefighters will focus on where to place apparatus in the event of a fire, test water pressures and capacities of fire hydrants throughout the business district, and review and update incident planning.

“The Southampton Fire Department recognizes that this training could interrupt normal operations for some businesses and could be an inconvenience for some area residents,” a press release said. “It is the department’s hope that the businesses and residents will be understanding that this type of training is a necessity to be fully prepared for any incidents that might occur.”
