Update: Motorcyclist Dead in Springs Crash
Update, 10:30 p.m.: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Springs Sunday evening, East Hampton Town police said.
Christian Bermeo, 28, was riding a 2013 Yamaha motorcycle south on Springs-Fireplace Road when he struck a 2018 Honda that was making a left onto Cedar Ridge Drive, according to police. Susan Israelson, 79, was behind the wheel of the Honda and had been traveling north on Springs-Fireplace Road before attempting to make the turn. Police received a 911 call at 5:11 p.m.
Mr. Bermeo, who police said lived in East Hampton, was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a 2014 Nissan, which was traveling north on Springs-Fireplace Road, according to a police statement.
A Springs Fire Department ambulance took him to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ms. Israelson, also an East Hampton resident, was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Nissan, whose name was not released, was not injured.
Police have asked that anyone with information regarding the accident call the East Hampton Town Police Detective Division at 631-537-6989. All calls will be kept confidential.
Originally, 6:03 p.m.: Police are investigating a serious accident involving a motorcycle in Springs on Sunday evening.
A motorcycle and car collided near the intersection of Cedar Ridge Drive and Springs-Fireplace Road at about 5:15 p.m.
Emergency responders were reportedly performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the accident. The Springs Fire Department ambulance transported the patient to Southampton Hospital.
A medevac helicopter was initially called to take the patient to Stony Brook University Hospital, but it was canceled after the personnel reported CPR was in progress.
