Polar Express to Depart East Hampton Station

A "Polar Express" train will leave East Hampton for Montauk on Wednesday at 7:09 p.m. Durell Godfrey

Update, Dec. 16, 11:45 a.m.:  This event, a privately organized mini fund-raiser for the Children's Museum of the East End, has been fully subscribed.

Original, Dec. 14, 12:31 p.m.: A train from East Hampton to Montauk on Wednesday evening will be transformed into the Polar Express. Children who still believe (and even those who think they don't) have been invited to hop aboard for hot cocoa and a visit with Santa.

The train will leave the East Hampton station at 7:09 p.m. and arrive at the Montauk station at 7:34. The Children's Museum of the East End is handling registration for this event, which has a limited number of seats. Riders will need to purchase tickets for the train as usual either at the station or online.

Santa will say goodbye to children in Montauk and head off to points north. The train terminates in Montauk, so families should arrange their own return transportation.

As in "The Polar Express" book and its movie adaptation, children may want to wear their pajamas for the ride; an early arrival at the station has been recommended.

People can sign up in advance by clicking here. Organizers of the ride have suggested a donation to the Children's Museum of the East End as a thank-you. There will be a collection box for those donations at the station in East Hampton.
