‘Great Gatsby’ Sails Into Bay Street in November
The 10th season of Literature Live! at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor will feature Simon Levy’s stage adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby,” with public performances starting next Thursday and free daytime shows for school groups starting Monday.
Using curriculum-based literature, the Literature Live! programs bring professional theater artists together to present first-class productions. Joe Minutillo, who has directed four previous productions in the series, will stage “The Great Gatsby,” which will star Charlie Westfal as Jay Gatsby, John Kroft as Nick Carraway, and Sara Carolynn Kennedy as Daisy Buchanan.
Set in 1922 on Long Island’s Gold Coast, the story centers on Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire with shady business connections who is obsessed with Daisy, a young debutante and a cousin of Carraway’s. Fitzgerald’s portrait of the Roaring Twenties explores themes of ambition, greed, deceit, love, decadence, and class.
Other cast members are Alexandra Kopko, Dan Fenaughty, Chauncy Thomas, Amanda Kristin Nichols, Scott T. Hinson, and Stephanie Turci. Other creative team members are Michael Holland (original music), Rick Sordelet (fight director), Mike Billings (lighting and set designer), Brian Staton (projection designer), Melanie Clifton-Harvey (costume designer), Meg Murphy (hair and makeup), Taylor Alyssa Marun (production stage manager), and Melisa Zorer (assistant stage manager).
Public performances through Nov. 25 will be at 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays (except Nov. 22), and at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and on Nov. 23 and Nov. 25. Tickets are $20 to $55.
